Our programs and services

YEVA stands out as a program for young newcomers. We encourage leadership amongst youth, and we track growth by personalizing one-on-one feedback sessions. We ensure that each youth feels a sense of belonging by listening, thinking, and acting.

We believe integration is not one-sided; our programs bring together both immigrant and non-immigrant students to share honest conversations about identity. Through these discussions and activities, youth discover how much we all have in common. Our unique approach aims to build a new kind of community that fosters care, curiosity, and shared understanding.

Peer pairing

Newcomer youth will get paired with another student in the same age group. Each month, they will participate in activities together to form bonds and learn about each other's cultures. By the end of the semester, they will receive a certificate with their volunteering hours that can benefit university applications.

Field Trips + Indigenous Day

Each semester, we have a day dedicated to the indigenous communities of Calgary. The youth will participate in a workshop aiming to educate about indigenous culture, and appreciation. form bonds and learn about each other's cultures. By the end of the semester, they will receive a certificate with their volunteering hours that can benefit university applications.

Career education

YEVA will host monthly gatherings where youth come together to listen to a volunteering speaker give insights about their career. Certain jobs include entrepreneurship, doctors, lawyers, engineers, and more. During these sessions, the youth can network and ask for opportunities.

Social engagements

Monthly sessions that are focused on guided conversations and activities about identity and culture. During these meetings, volunteers present ideas about leadership, self-esteem, and confidence. Unlike traditional programs that focus on adaptation, YEVA invites everyone to learn from one another.
